PAY, NATIONAL INSURANCE & PERSONAL TAX ADVICE ...
As a new employee you will be required to apply to your local Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) office for a National Insurance number. Contact details for your local DWP office can be found in the local Yellow Pages telephone directory under JobCentre Plus. Alternatively, visit www.yell.co.uk

Your National Insurance will be unique to yourself and will easily identify you to the Income Tax & DWP offices.

In applying to your local DWP office, they will require a number of forms of identification. These include:

Your passport
Your work permit / visa & right to abode (if applicable)
Details of your current place of residence
Proof of employment (e.g. a payslip)

ADVICE FOR OVERSEAS APPLICANTS ...
HAVE YOU GOT A VISA ?
If you do not hold a current UK or European passport, you are not permitted to work in the UK without a valid working visa.

Residents of Commonwealth countries are eligible to apply for a 2 year Working Holiday-Maker Visa from the British High Commission in their nation's capital. Applications must be lodged before leaving home. On entering the UK , British Immigration will validate your visa for 2 years from your day of arrival. The Working Holiday-Maker Visa entitles you to work for a maximum of half the allocated time.
Residents of non-Commonwealth countries should contact their nearest Embassy for eligibility enquiries.

USEFUL NUMBERS :
Pretoria - South Africa 27 1243 3121
Wellington - New Zealand 64 4472 6049
Canberra - Australia 61 6270 6666

Candidates with a ‘Working Holiday' visa can only take up "employment incidental to their holiday". They can work for up to 50% of the time, either by working part-time (up to 20 hrs/week) throughout, or by working full time for 12 months and not working for the other 12 months. However a working holidaymaker is not allowed to pursue his/her career or to render professional services.

ANCESTRY / PATRIALITY VISA
You can apply for this visa if you have a British born parent or grandparent. This will entitle you to work for up to four years in the UK . Due to common changes in the rules, we would advise you check the most current rules with your local British High Commission or Embassy. Alternatively, visit the UK government websites at: www.fco.gov.uk and www.homeoffice.gov.uk

You will need to present your birth certificate, your parent's and/or grandparent's birth certificate to the British High Commission or Embassy. If you are issued with an entry certificate, please bring it with you to the UK and present it to immigration on arrival. They will stamp your passport with a patriality stamp entitling you to work in the UK.

DUAL NATIONALITY
If you're an overseas professional with dual nationality in Britain , or another European Union country, then you'll have automatic entitlement to work in the UK . As proof, a dual 2nd passport is all that is required.

WORK PERMIT
Work permit arrangements allow employers based in the UK to employ people who are not nationals of a European Union country and not entitled to work in the UK . Work permits in the UK are issued by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES).

Categories of people the DfES will consider issuing permits to are: those with degree level or equivalent professional qualifications; those with experience at a senior level; and for people with skills that are in short supply.

Under the Conduct of Employment Agencies and Employment Business Regulations 1976, Workforce Solution has an obligation to ensure that anyone who works through our agency has a legal right to work in the UK .

For eligibility for a Working Holiday Visa, you must satisfy the following conditions:

Be a Commonwealth citizen aged between 17 and 30, inclusive.
You do not have dependent children who will exceed 5 years of age at the end of your holiday period.
Be intending to stay in the UK for no more than two years in total (including time you spend traveling outside the UK ).
You will, however, have the opportunity after 12 months to switch to Work Permit status whilst still in the UK .
Have sufficient funds for your fare home and to support your initial stay. An open ticket can be a real advantage, despite being more expensive.
Be confident that in any other visit to the UK you have not infringed any laws.

There are many different categories of people who can take up lawful employment.
